Second annual Dentistry From the Heart on April 30!

A friendly reminder that on Friday, April 30, our team at Advanced Dental Concepts will host the second annual Dentistry From The Heart, a day that we will offer free smiles to anyone who needs dental work.

The event will take place April 30th at our office in Pace. Starting at 8am, Drs. Spurlock, Faulkner and Faulkner will treat the first 150 patients, or however many they can treat by 5pm. We will be providing free fillings, extractions and cleanings on a first come, first serve basis to adults over 18 years old. It was a huge success last year and we are hoping to be able to serve as many this year. Last year, our team treated more than 200 people.

Give us a call for more info! We look forward to seeing you on the 30th!

10 Dos and Don’ts of Facebook for parents, from Advanced Dental Concepts

Our staff at Advanced Dental Concepts know many parents tend to sign up for Facebook accounts and ‘friend’ their kids, often as a way to keep an eye on their online activities. But then what? Many parents in this digital age are still lost when it comes time to monitoring their kids online.

Last fall, parenting author Vicki Courtney wrote a helpful post on the things parents should and shouldn’t do while on Facebook. Drs. Faulkner and Spurlock and our team thought you might benefit from reading Vicki’s interesting piece.

Here is her list of the Top Ten Facebook No-Nos for Parents, designed specifically for those moms and dads who aren’t sure whether they’ve crossed the line in monitoring their kids’ presence online.

We hope you find this article informational. Please let us know what you think!

Smile now, smile later, smile often! From Advanced Dental Concepts

Great news to report this Wednesday afternoon! A new study from Wayne State University in Michigan suggests people with big, happy smiles may actually out-live those who don't.

Drs. Faulkner and Spurlock had known that positive emotion has been linked to both physical and mental health, but researchers at the university used information from the Baseball Register to look at photos of 230 players who began their baseball careers prior to 1950.

The players' photos were enlarged, and the researchers studied their smile intensity (ranging from big smile, partial smile or no smile). The players' smile ratings were compared with data from deaths that occurred from 2006 through 2009, with researchers recognizing other factors associated with life longevity, such as body mass index, career length and even college attendance.

The results? Researchers found that players who weren't smiling died at the average age of 72.9 years. Players with partial smiles lived to be 75. Those with big smiles, however, lived on average to be 79.9 years old.

Smile now, smile often and you might just live longer! Have you been perfecting your smile by visiting Advanced Dental Concepts every six months? If not, give us a call at (850) 304-0027!
